A/Prof Sumaira Hasnain

A/Prof Sumaira Hasnain graduated with her PhD from The University of Manchester, UK in Dec 2010. She is a NHMRC Career Development Fellow, leading her Immunopathology group at Mater Research Institute -The University of Queensland (currently team of 9 researchers). A/Prof Hasnain is on a steep career trajectory with 32 publications: 77% as first author or corresponding author including in Nature Medicine, Diabetologia, Journal of  Experimental Medicine and Gastroenterology (>1600 citations). Her capabilities are reflected in the award of numerous prizes (21 won to date). She discovered a new paradigm in immunity, demonstrating immunity-driven changes in secretory cells. Her novel discoveries have therapeutic relevance for multiple common diseases including Type 2 Diabetes and Fatty Liver Disease.
