Associate Professor Samantha Hocking

Associate Professor Samantha Hocking is an Endocrinologist at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and a Clinical Academic at the University of Sydney. She is the current president of the National Association of Clinical Obesity Services.

A/Prof Hocking graduated from Sydney University with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery in 1999. In 2005 she became a fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (Endocrinology) and completed a Masters degree in Medicine (Clinical Epidemiology). In 2011 she completed her PhD studies at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research which investigated the metabolic differences between visceral and subcutaneous adipose tissue depots, and how accumulation of the former is related to insulin resistance. A/Prof Hocking was a Staff Specialist in Endocrinology at Royal North Shore Hospital from 2009 – 2017 before returning to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and the University of Sydney in 2017.

A/Prof Hocking’s research interests are focused on the metabolic complications of obesity. She is passionate about education to improve the quality of obesity care in Australia. In addition, she treats patients with at the Metabolism and Obesity Service, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
