Parenting, Child Behaviour and Wellbeing

The ACAORN Parenting, Child Behaviour and Wellbeing stream was developed in 2011 in response to a recognised need for a focus on parenting, child behaviour and wellbeing within the context of child and adolescent obesity research. The stream brings together a diverse group of clinical and public health researchers from the Australasian region.

Parenting, Child Behaviour and Wellbeing stream members have a strong commitment to the consideration and application of contemporary parenting, child and adolescent behaviour and wellbeing constructs in research and clinical practice relating to child and adolescent obesity.

The Parenting, Child Behaviour and Wellbeing stream goals are to:

  • integrate broader parenting, child behaviour and wellbeing theoretical and empirical literature to inform childhood and adolescent obesity research and practice

  • operationally define and measure parenting, child behaviour and wellbeing constructs in the context of childhood and adolescent obesity research

  • identify appropriate parenting, child behaviour and wellbeing constructs and outcomes to consider in childhood & adolescent obesity research

  • identify areas of importance and future directions for parenting, child behaviour and wellbeing in childhood and adolescent obesity research

  • facilitate collaborations and facilitate high quality research of parenting, child behaviour and wellbeing in the context of obesity

  • provide opportunities for post-graduate and post-doctoral education and training in paediatric obesity research

The specific objectives of this stream are:

  1. To identify important parenting, child and adolescent behaviour and wellbeing constructs which could be used to further childhood obesity research

  2. To identify gaps in the childhood obesity literature in relation to parenting, child and adolescent behaviour and wellbeing constructs.
