Emma Quinn

Emma Quinn started her career in biomedical science, working as a research assistant for several years in bowel and breast cancer research at the Garvan Institute NSW Australia and then for the Royal Marsden Hospital, London, UK respectively. After completing her MPH at the University of College London, Emma returned to Australia and completed the NSW Public Health Officer’s (PHO) training program in 2013 working across a variety of different organisations across NSW, including the Sax Institute, the Centre for Population Health at the NSW Ministry of Health and for Far West and Hunter New England LHDs.  Emma was awarded her Doctorate in Applied Public Health from the University of New South Wales in 2015. Her Doctorate was focused on addressing health inequities through applied public health research.

Since that time, Emma worked several years as an Biopreparedness Epidemiologist and Research Manager for Sydney Local Health District Public Health Unit and was awarded NHMRC Rapid and Research Translation Initiative (RART) funding through Sydney Health Partners and University of Sydney to evaluate the pilot of a new outbreak response application in aged care facilties. 

More recently, Emma worked for Health Protection NSW as a senior manager helping to co-design a new surveillance and outbreak response platform for NSW Health.  Currently, Emma is working as a Principal Analyst and Manager for the data and evaluation team within the Centre for Population Health, at the NSW Ministry of Health and her work is focused on the healthy eating and active living portfolio.  Emma is also a senior lecturer at the University of Sydney, NSW and has supervised a range of university and public health training program students or registrars.  Emma remains passionate and committed to applied public health research that supports equitable outcomes for our NSW population.
