Dr Elizabeth Machan (Cayanan) is an accredited exercise physiologist and nutritionist specialising in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea through weight loss interventions. She is an early career researcher and lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney and maintains a clinical load, primarily in people living with obesity and sleep conditions. Her research program spans behavioural interventions (diet and exercise) for a range of health conditions including sleep disordered breathing, conditions of hypersomnolence, substance use disorder and healthy populations with sleep impacts (such as athletes and shift workers). To date, her major research focus has been on weight loss strategies for people living with sleep apnoea and translation of these interventions to clinical practice.
